As a teacher in graphic design, I must ensure that I adhere to Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 and give my students sufficient breaks to prevent eye strain.
The Disability Discrimination Act 1995:
In accordance with the Disability Act I should take any measures that make reasonable adjustments to overcome the physical barriers to access for disabled people within the college.
I will have to make sure that disabled students are provided with appropriate facilities to help them continue their education, like other students, taking part in practical activities in the art department.
The Sex Discrimination Act 1975:
According to this act, it is unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of sex, marital status or gender reassignment, in employment, education, provision of goods, facilities and services.
As a teacher I should not discriminate or exclude students on the grounds of sex, in access to classes, art equipment, or any other facilities in the art department.
The Human Rights Act 1998:
In accordance with the Human Rights Act 1998 all students have the right to an education regardless of nationality, religious belief, race or disability. Students must also have access to food and drink within the college.
Data Protection Act 1998:
As a lecturer it is my responsibility to ensure that all student’s personal details are not made public or given to anyone without the student’s permission.
