1.1 Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor environments and services.
When planning a healthy and safe indoor environment and services it is important that the outlay of the room is safe, there should be adequate space to move around the room comfortably making sure all bags are placed under the table and chairs not being used should be pushed under the desks. While students are working in the classrooms lighting is very important as some students could be sensitive to the light, which could affect their concentration so adjusting the lighting may be necessary, others may different colour and writing paper if they have a diagnosis of Irlen Syndrome. Keeping the noise level down is helpful to students especially those who suffer on the Autistic Spectrum this could affect them more than other students, make sure that the pupils don’t swing on the chairs and remain sitting with all four legs on the floor, while using materials and equipment within the classroom, a safe layout should be set out making sure the table has easy access for a number of people who are using them as everyone should be able to access all equipment, also equipment that is in use or not in use should be stored away safely. Depending on the weather during winter there should be sufficient heating and in the hot weather windows should be opened on a safety catch and students should be given access to drinking water.
A safe and healthy outdoor environment should have boundaries for the pupils making sure they are secure, the outside area needs checking before students go into the area clearing any litter, broken glass or animal mess.
