Explain the teaching role and responsibilities in education and training:
Teaching demands a high level of confidence from an individual, this can be a natural attribute, but it also stems from a teacher having an excellent understanding of the core subject matter. Our role ultimately is to inspire learners and help them to achieve their goals. By encouraging learners to challenge their own boundaries we reduce their perception of personal limitation and further develop their thirst for knowledge.
Teaching is often seen as a Professional career and carries with it a high degree of responsibility. It is only reasonable therefore that our behaviour inside & outside of the work place is exemplary as this portrays a professional image and earns credibility with learners and respect from our peers.
As a teacher we need to be well organised and professional in our delivery of the lesson. The ability to assess our candidates and identify their needs is crucial for successful lesson planning. Part of the assessment process can offer insight into how our learners actually learn. It may be that some candidates are teacher led (Pedagogy) which normally relates to younger learners which demands a higher level of interaction, whereas Adult learners tend to fall into to the Andragogy category have the ability to reflect on the content of the lesson, evaluate the information and determine where they are and what they need to do to progress. Understanding this process allows us to determine what teaching style(s) are required. Having assessed our learner’s we can start to plan and ultimately provide the appropriate resources to cater for all candidates. As learners, we all respond differently to teaching styles and methods… Kolb’s Experimental Cycle (1984) details how, based on a learner’s experience of a lesson (Concrete Experience), they first draw on that experience and then reflect on the lesson content (Reflective Observation). This ultimately leads to a conclusion...
