In today’s society, the media and its’ news have done poor jobs, by providing inadequate jobs of analyzing and making reports on and about our justice system. Courts especially, are portrayed negatively based on what they choose to relay to the public. They only choose to report on and relay murder cases or rare cases to the public. In many movies and television shows, courts are portrayed as exciting and full of action. In reality, this is not the case. As a result of this, the public gets poorly educated about what is really going on in their society.
Courts are mainly portrayed as being very elegant, expensive, and large. Throughout the courtrooms, we learn a great deal about the various positions vital to cases. There are two different types of lawyers portrayed in A Few Good Men, the prosecutor and the defense attorney. Defense attorneys are interesting lawyers who show little emotion in most cases, but they are passionate in having fair trials. On the other hand, prosecutors believe that everyone is guilty from the start.
In an interesting case, the movie A Few Good Men portrays defense attorneys to be very careless. In this movie, a very important court case is held in justice of finding the murderer(s) of Marine William Santiago. Santiago was murdered at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, which is located in Cuba. The suspects in Santiago’s murder were Private First Class Downey and Lance Corporal Dawson. The defense attorney in the movie was Lieutenant Kaffee. Initially Kaffee did not really care much about his clients, Dawson or Downey. They also hardly had any contact with Lieutenant Kaffee.
Female attorneys portray a very serious and dedicated side in the justice system. They show that they are very dedicated in their line of duties. Most female attorneys are career hungry and motivational. It is evident that female attorneys devout majority of their time working, and have no outside lives beyond their work.
