Applying Anglicisms When Operating with Documentary Letters of Credit

Abstract: This paper deals with the English loaned words and their adaptation in Serbian language when operating with documentary credits. Problem of uniform interpretation of LC documents and standardizing LC terminology was resolved in 2007 when the International Chamber of Commerce adopted the latest in a series Revision of Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits, i.e. UCP 600. The corpus of this paper encompasses all the words and phrases of English origin used in UCP 600 which were analysed on three levels: phonological, morphological and lexical. The aim was to determine, classify and describe the process of linguistic borrowing as well as to outline the importance of understanding the documentary credit terminology. The conclusion drawn from the analysis conducted in this paper indicates the necessity of uniform advanced knowledge of LC terminology both for linguists and bank experts.
