The Secret Life of a Developing Country (OURS)
Thesis: Larkin’s MAJOR argument was that there were various social customs and behaviors within the newly independent USA, many of which are contradictory to the “placid…white-picket-fence nation we imagine ourselves to have been.” His assertion was that many aspects have contributed to who we’ve become today; such as the nature of the region and the social traits colonists possessed. Larkin thinks that people should realize that social customs change slowly over time and we have not always been as we are today.
