Teen pregnancy is a major concern in the United States. In the public health field there has been many ways teenage pregnancy has a success stories in the last decade. According to the article “Tackling teen pregnancy” “As of 1998 the under conception rate has decrease to 34% to 31 per female, according to 2011 statistics this means the rate is lower than 1969” (Tackling teen pregnancy -Local Government Association, 2013, p. 1). However, the rate compares to nearly 30,000 conceptions each year. Three-quarters of those individuals are not planned, and half the individuals consider obtaining an abortion.
Teen pregnancy has been a public health concern and each individual should be concerned about the issue. The concerns were established on political view, individuals base themselves with family values, and unfortunately the families do not want public school to address the value choice. “According to the statistics there are one- third of become pregnant before the age of 20, there are 750,000 teen pregnancies yearly, there are nine million of sexually transmitted disease between the ages of 15-24 (Teen Pregnancy Is a Public Health Issues, Not a Political One..., 2010, p .1). There are 5,000 HIV infections between the ages of 13-24, and there are roughly 435,436 births between the ages 15-19. The expected costs for the public in teen pregnancy in the United States are between to $6 and $9 billion annually. Teen pregnancy mothers are on a certain kind of public assistance, teen mothers are suspect not to receive any prenatal care, and this will cause harmful health issues on children. Teen mothers are at a larger chance to become emotional or physical abusive if the teen mother does not have any family assistance. The children are at a high risk of emotional or academic issues in his or her later years.
