In my role as Instructor / teacher in the wood assembly spray shop there are numerous legislations and codes of practices to adhere to these are known as the European 6 pack which comes under the umbrella of the health & safety at work act 1974 these include;

It is the duty of the employer so far as is reasonably practicable to safeguard the health, safety & welfare of its employees, under this duty it is my responsibility as an Instructor / teacher to ensure that I provide a safe working environment for my candidates / learners as this is part of the health & safety at work act, this legislation is in place to protect people from risks to health & safety due to activities of others. This act also provides the need for the prison service to put a health & safety policy in place to protect the employee’s candidates & learners from particular risks associated with the prison service as this can be a hostile environment. The act also provides for further regulation and approved codes of practice.
As an Instructor / teacher I need to be aware of the disability act 2001, as it is unlawful to discriminate against a disabled or special needs person that you are teaching
