For this evaluation I am going to discuss my practice from the perspective of my learners, discussing what they have feedback about my practice and what is effective in meeting the individual needs of the learners. I will be discussing the strengths and limitations that learners have confessed in my teaching practice particularly focusing on planning.
My current planning practice use the 5 minute lesson plan tool to create condensed plans of my lesson illustrating the learning outcomes and what activities the lesson will entail. This gives myself and anyone else a good overview of the lessons intentions and makes it easy to understand. I sometimes find however that using 5 minute lesson plans can be difficult to illustrate everything that needs to be explained.
I follow my 5 minute lesson plan with a presentation that shows learners the new skills or demonstration of the information. This proves to work, however it isn’t very effective. Engagement levels are low and most learners just coast through a presentation not particularly learning the necessary skills, this needs improvement in the planning stages. Using 2-3 slides for the bare essential information so learners don’t get bored. I focus my planning on inclusivity and preparing for the individual needs of the learner, I have resources available for absent learners and plans in place in case of my own absence.
Strengths
* My ability to communicate with learners has been complimented by learners on various occasions, particularly the level of rapport that I build with learners, taking into account their opinions and excuses with a degree of sympathy. This is a natural process and doesn’t require a plan; however as a teacher having a rough plan generally inside my head of how to approach different situations affects my ability to communicate.
* Planning for attainment has also been highlighted as strength...
