Later on Pierre Fredy, the Baron De Coubertin revived the idea of the Olympic Games stating that sports could encourage peace throughout the world and bring people together. Avid stands for Advancement via individual determination it is a college readiness program designed to increase performance. Avid began in 1980 by a lady named Mary Catherine Swanson. She believed Avid was the answer to many undeserved students. Avid Students and Olympians share goals and traditions that they cherish. They follow their goals and philosophies until they reach success. Avid students and Olympians share determination and achievement.

Avid students take the extra mile by participating tutorial sessions which are instructed by avid tutors. The tutorials challenge the students to problem solve. The ultimate motivation for an Avid student is the acceptance letter to a UC. Olympic champions are hardworking in the way they make sacrifices in their personal life to achieve the ultimate goal.
