Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that manifest it’s self into crazy mood swings, ranging from intense excitement and joy to deep depression. These episodes are unpredictable and can last for days, weeks, even months at a time. There are three main types of bipolar disorders. Bipolar I which is the most common which one will experience mood swings, Bipolar II & hypomania is when people undergo long periods of depression inter, and cyclothymic disorder which is less severe than bipolar I & II but these patients are characterized more by irritability than euphoria. Cyclothymic disorders periods last at least two years, with single episodes happening about every few days or weeks or more. Cyclothymic can turn into   bipolar I or bipolar II, just about half   of all these patients may go on to develop more serious types   of the disorder, mainly because of being untreated.   Many mental health professionals suspects that bipolar disorders are caused by chemical in balances in the brain, inherited from one of the patients parents, and cultural and social factors. The way one is diagnosed with this illness is that the patient themselves usually go to the doctor seeking for help during a episode of depression; they would question the patient, learn the manic episodes, and question the patient about family history of bipolar disorder. Some symptoms include intense joy, bad tempers, excessive talking, narcissistic feelings, and little need for sleep, promiscuity, and longing to spend money. Symptoms in depressive phase include overpowering sadness, low energy, change in appetite, and negativity. Bipolar patients are more prone to hypothyroidism, which is when the body’s metabolism slows down and cannot burn calories at a normal rate.   To help the patients cope with their symptoms their prescribed with the drug lithium with other supplements to help control their episodes because there is no cure for it.
