1.1An outline of current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures within own UK Home Nation affecting the safeguarding of children and young people
In England and Wales we have policies and procedures for safeguarding and Child Protection are the result of the Children Act 1989. The Children Act 2004 also changed the structure and organisation of the way Child protection is after the serious case review which involved Victoria Climbie.

Policies and procedures that relate to safeguarding children and young people

Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act
Protects children under the age of 18 who are living independently and supporting themselves. They also safeguard children in further education, Hospitals, a member of the armed forces of children and young people who are spending time in prison or young offender’s institution.
The vital policy of the act is to make sure children and young people are protected from potential abuse and are protected from allegation of abuse. The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act Also protect children and young people that suffer with a disability or learning difficulty who are currently or has been looked after by the authority.

Protection of Children Act 1999
The policy's priority is to make sure any person employed to work with or alongside children has to be checked against the Child Protection Registers to ensure that anyone they decide to employ has taken a DBS check and come back with no prior convictions and have not broken the law in a certain amount of time. However no company should employ people that are on theses registers because this means they are not suitable to be employed to work with children and need to updated and looked at regularly.
