Nutritional needs for children 0-19.Babies and ToddlersChildren should be influenced to eat a varied diet. They should eat foods from the four main food groups on a day to day basis. The main four groups are; Fruit and veg. Fruit and vegetables contains a lot of minerals fibre and vitamins. The more fruit and veg you introduce to your child the better.Milk and dairyWhole milk and full fat products are good source of calcium that helps with the growth of children’s teeth and bones. Dairy also contains vitamins A that supports the body resisting infections that is needed for healthy skins and eyes. Starch.Starchy foods provide nutrients, fibre and energy. You should avoid giving only wholegrain to under 2’s as it fills them up quickly and stops them from getting the calories they need. As they get older you can slowly introduce other wholegrains. ProteinProteins are like building blocks for the body, it helps with the body grows and repair itself.Poor diet affects tooth development. You child must have a balanced diet for healthy gum tissue around the teeth, too much sugar and starch can cause tooth decay.
