09- Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People

1 Know about the legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people including e-safety.
Policies and procedures:   Schools must have a range of policies which ensure pupils are safe and secure. They set out responsibilities for staff and procedures that they must follow.
E-safety: The UK council for child internet safety which was launched in 2008 in response to concerns of safety on the internet. The role of it is to safeguard children and increase the awareness of the internet safety council, that has produced a strategy to help set out measures to protect children from unsuitable sites and establish codes of practise.
Children act 1989: The children’s act provides the legal framework for every child. It includes:
  * Services to work more closely, forming an integrated service.
  * A ‘common’ assessment of children’s needs
  * A shared database of information which is relevant to the safety and welfare of children.
  * Support for parents who are experiencing problems.
The education Act 2004: This act provides the legal protocol for every child. This includes the requirements for:
  * Services to work more closely, forming an integrated service.
  * A ‘common’ assessment of children’s needs.
  * A shared database of information which is relevant to the safety and welfare of children.
  * Support for parents who are experiencing problems.
