Your professional background including your experience as a teacher
I began teaching in 2003 after completing a 120 hr TEFL Certificate. After a period in language schools, I began teaching in International Schools and my teaching focus shifted away from teaching English as a foreign Language (EFL) to teaching literacy skills. Realising the gap in my knowledge I took some Continuing Professional Development courses e.g. stage 1 and 2 Primary and Teaching IGCSE English with Cambridge International Exams. I also gained a certificate for CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) module of the Teachers Knowledge Test from Cambridge ESOL. In 2011 I became a certified Cambridge ESOL oral examiner for the First Certificate in English (FCE) and Young Learners Exams (YLE). |

Your current role and responsibilities including the subject(s) you teach
My role is a Primary 1 English/literacy teacher. I am responsible for teaching stage 2 of the Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP) curriculum. As such, I have to monitor the learners' progress and prepare them for the Cambridge progression test. I have to attend weekly grade level meetings, primary level meetings as well as meet with parents to discuss their child's progress. |
