How, when, where and why they were established
PepsiCo, Incorporated is an American global company with interests in the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of snack-foods, beverages and other products. PepsiCo emerged in the 1965 when the beverage company Pepsi-Cola and potato chips company, Frito-Lay Inc. merged together. PepsiCo, Inc. has gone on to become one of the world's top consumer product companies with many of the world's most significant and valued trademarks. Its Pepsi-Cola Company division is the second largest soft drink business in the world. The company has gone on to merged with Tropicana in 1998 and more recently Quaker Oats in 2001 for $13.4 billion.

Acquisitions during the 21st Century
In 1998 PepsiCo merged with Tropicana in an attempt to strengthen its chances in the war against Coca-Cola. The acquisition of Tropicana was the largest to date worth 3.3 billion dollars and allowed PepsiCo to diversify its product range and target a larger group of consumers.
PepsiCo has more recently merged with Quaker Oats in 2001 with a deal worth $13.4 billion dollars. Quaker Oats which had ownership over Gatorade which held an astounding 83.6 percent of the U.S. retail market share for sports drinks and was the world leader in that segment with annual sales of approximately $2 billion.
