The use of coercive diplomacy measures have been at the disposal of nation states as far back as anyone can remember.   Although the means employed to force a target nation to do something it would not ordinarily do or getting a target nation to change its behavior tools have changed, the concepts of diplomatic coercion remains the same.   Today, a country like the United States, due to its current economic, technological, political, and military standing in the world have the ability to use its resources of diplomatic coercion, whether through the use of hard power, soft power, the use of economic sanctions, its influence, or the use of war, can get many of its diplomatic goals accomplished.   The task is effectively accomplished by getting target nations to change policies, change behavior, forcing target nations to do a host nation’s biding or by the use co-operative power to name a few.   The aforementioned coercive vehicles for change can be applied to global objectives or country specific goals.   Although the use of one of these measure will most of the times not bring about the intended objective, it is understood in the political science arena the application of multiple measures is what has the greatest affect on the pursuit and accomplishment of specific goals.
      In this paper I hope to address how the United States can accomplish its goals using forms of international power and influence to accomplish some of its main foreign policy goals.   Some of the goals, I will attempt to address are of the current United States administration’s as well as future goals I feel will be detrimental for the United States in the future.   Do to the fact that goals of the future are currently not being addressed by the United States administration, I will attempt to provide basic policy recommendations for them as well as using the different...
