The professional organization that will help support my career field is American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM). AAHAM’s mission is to provide education, certification, networking, and advocacy for healthcare revenue cycle professionals. The AAHAM was founded in 1968 as the American Guild of Patient Account Management. Initially formed to serve the interest of hospital patient account managers, AAHAM has evolved into a national membership association that respects a broad based constituency of healthcare professionals. Membership in AAHAM helps you work smarter, advance your career and offers you access to a wealth of revenue cycle information, the association recognizes that professional development is one of the key reasons that many individuals become members. One of AAHAM’s primary focuses is the professional development of its members. AAHAM provides education and training for staff and managers, as well as offer a nationally recognized certification program in the form of publications, bench marking, professional certifications and numerous networking opportunities for increasing the skills and knowledge that are necessary to function effectively in today’s ever changing healthcare environment. AAHAM has 39 chapters across the United States and abroad, all offering superior education and networking on a local level. The local chapter for Texas is Texas bluebonnet. For more than 25 years AAHAM certifications have defined new levels of professionalism in the healthcare administrative field. Certifications can contribute towards increasing professional knowledge and abilities. Becoming professionally certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM).
