Understand the principles of developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults

1.1 -Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults

Positive relationships are relationships that are of benefit to children and young people . In order to develop positive relationships there needs to be a very good level of communication arising from well developed communication skills. Good communication arises from positive relationships, therefore it is important to foster both positive relationships and to model effective communication skills. Adults must monitor both their words and their actions when in front of children in order to model the behaviour and boundaries expected from pupils whilst at school. Effective communication and positive relationships need to be consciously worked on and monitored at all times.

1.2 -Explain the principles of relationship building with children, young people and adults

Relationships need to be built and maintained in order to be able to communicate well, both between and amongst children and adults. If we are able to build a good relationship with others, they are more likely to feel comfortable with us, and therefore a positive relationship will develop. These positive relationships can be developed and nurtured, and effort needs to go into developing them. Building these relationships and developing effective communication relies on the following criteria being used: being considerate, listening to others, showing respect, being clear and maintaining a sense of humour.
Being considerate means considering others and thinking about them in relation to their feelings and behaviours. Showing respect involves listening to other’s points of view. So, both adults and children may have different views and beliefs from you but their...
