Historical Connections with Christianity, Judaism and Islam
Historical connections between Christianity and Judaism began with the creation of the world by God. The Old Testament has many stories of events that has lead to the building of God’s people and church which is shared by Christianity because it is the bases that supports the foundation of Christianity. Another connection is the enslavement of the Hebrews and God delivering them from bondage from Egypt by the plagues that were sent because Pharaoh would not release the Hebrews. Then the death angel was sent to kill the first born son and God telling the Hebrews how to protect their first born and God making a covenant with the Hebrews after the deliverance to make them his people. All of the stories about the history of Judaism are a historical connection to Christianity that led to the fulfillment of the coming of the Messiah (Jesus). Both Judaism and Christianity began in Palestine.
A historical connection between Christianity and Islam begins with the belief in one God. They both are connected to Judaism for their start. Even though Christianity has the Bible and Islam has the Quran, they both believe that God inspired them. Both believe that prophets existed and helped to write the Bible or Quran. Christianity and Islam both believe that God is the creator of the world.
Theological Similarities with Christianity, Judaism and Islam
“Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, in contrast to Hinduism and Buddhism, are all monotheistic faiths that worship God of Adam, Abraham, and Moses – creator, sustainer, and lord of the universe” (Esposito, 2009, p. 1). The beliefs in God of all three religions are the same except for Christianity that believe in the trinity as God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
