CU765 Manage Physical Resources
Understand the importance of sustainability when using physical resources.
1.1 Explain the importance of using sustainable resources
Using sustainable resources and materials is good for the environment and it is cost efficiently. The importance of using sustainable resources is to protect our natural resources. On a daily basis I encourage my team and the young people to consider the effect on the environment of the resources and products that they use. I ensure that all the office facilities are made from recycled produce where possible such as the paper we use and refillable ink cartridges, and that the as home we recycle at all times. The young people are encouraged and supported in growing their own fruit and vegetables that contribute to the food consumed and are taught lunch recipes that can be made from left overs the previous night. It is important to teach the young people and the my staff team that using sustainable resources and materials is good for the environment and helps to protect our natural resources.
1.2 Explain the potential impact of resource use on the environment
The Health and Social Care sectors are under increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact as local, national and global efforts to mitigate climate change gather pace. Under the terms of the 2008 Climate Change Act, the United Kingdom is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 34 per cent by 2020, and by 80 per cent by 2050. As a significant contributor to emissions, the health and social care sector must play its part in meeting these targets, and a number of policy
levers, such as the CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) Energy Efficiency Scheme, create a financial incentive to do so.
1.3 Explain how to use resources effectively and efficiently.
Resources can be used effectively and efficiently in health and social care practices by making sure that we only buy things that are needed not to just stack loads of things...
