“You know you're gonna live through the rain, lord you got to keep the faith, don't let your love turn to hate right now we got to keep the faith.” The famous song “Keep the Faith” by Bon Jovi was written to tell their listeners that they have to keep faith when times are hard, they have to keep going and believe good will come. That is what faith is, hope in something or someone that has no proof. The most important areas to have faith in are Religion, authority figures, and yourself.
From a Christian’s point of view faith is complete trust in God. Having faith as a Christian means trusting God to forgive us, make us holy, make us effective, and never abandon us. Faith is belief that there is life after death (Heaven). This is faith because there is no proof of any of these things. Christians believe in this because of the bible, stories of disciples who are said to have witnessed everything. How do people know it’s not a lie? Their trust is the answer. Jesus was said to have risen from the dead. Since no one personally knows anyone who has returned from the dead, this trust is faith, not knowledge.
Religion is not the only thing people have faith in. Everyone has faith in his or her authority figures. High school students trust their AP teacher to prepare them enough so they can pass that exam to get college credit. An athlete trusts their coach to lead them to that state title they work so hard for. A son or daughter trusts their parents to teach them everything they need to know so they can survive on their own. This trust believe it or not is Faith. Faith; trusting that the teacher, parent, or coach will fulfill their jobs the best they can.
Faith in oneself, and the ability to achieve things not known, is the most important faith of all. If you don't believe in yourself, then it will be impossible to truly believe in anything else that you cannot see, touch, feel or physically have proof of.
