Introduction
This report sets out an overview of The Dementia Care Development Project
(DCDP). A brief summary is given of how and why the project was set up.
The backdrop to the current achievements of the project is set by a statement
of the staff team’s aspirations. The progress of the project so far is measured
against the ‘Dementia Care Development Team Outcomes’ which were
established as benchmarks at the outset of the project. The work plan for the
future is set out in table format including goals and time scales. There is an
outline of the project’s proposed training and education programme for
2006/2007, including the second phase of training workshops. The conclusion
reflects on why Jewish Care can be optimistic about future care provision for
people with dementia.
Background
Jewish Care aspires to providing the highest standards of services for all
customers and especially for the most vulnerable groups. People with
dementia are recognised to be the largest group of customers using our
services. Jewish Care has worked in conjunction with Middlesex University
and The Oxford Dementia Centre to understand more fully how services can
be improved. In August 2002 Middlesex University published the findings of
research carried out in Jewish Care resources, and one of their
recommendations was further training for staff in communication skills and
person centred approaches. In April 2003 using standards developed by the
Alzheimer’s Society, an audit was completed on behalf of the DCDP in
conjunction with the Oxford Dementia Development Centre. High...
