DESCRIBE WHAT YOUR ROLE, RESPONSIBILITIES AND BOUNDARIES WOULD BE AS A TEACHER IN TERMS OF THE TEACHING/TRAINING CYCLE.
My role as a Trainer/Assessor encompasses a range of responsibilities. These are implemented by my personal skills to encourage development within myself and my candidates. My role is to identify learning outcomes and train my candidates so that they are more proficient in their occupation. I utilize the scheme administered by City and Guilds and give advice so that learners are able to familiarize themselves with the units to their current job role. I then assess them and this is done on an ongoing basis.
I use the units as a guide when planning tasks with learners. I then ask candidates questions and get them to construct work products within agreed timescales. Learners do this with minimum supervision and deadlines are set to ensure progress and also for both me and the learner to reflect on what has been achieved and to focus on any weaknesses.
My role is to also train my learners in areas in which they are weak, this is done by analysing the learners work product and questioning them to identify areas of improvement. I give them hands on demonstration which may utilize resources such as tutorials. This inspires confidence in the learner that the work isn’t complex and that it can be learned by breaking them it into smaller tasks which can be replicated.
After delivering a session, I assess candidates and know they are successful if they are able to show me the skills and techniques which I collate evidence for in their portfolios during my visits. To consolidate their skills I recap when I next attend and assess my learners using various methods to suit differing learning styles, which include practically showing me the work and talking me through so that I can underpin their knowledge in relation to the tasks.
