During the planning stage of the teaching cycle, my role is to identify the needs of my learners. In order to do this I would ask learners to complete an initial assessment and an Individual Learning Plan, which would highlight the skills and weaknesses they currently have. From this, I could establish whether any additional learning or study support was required. My responsibilities are to provide my learners with a clear outline of the syllabus by providing them with a Scheme of Work and to complete Lesson Plans that accommodate the needs of individual learners taking into account all levels and abilities. Limitations at this stage are how honest the learners are about their own strengths and weaknesses.
When designing lessons my responsibility is to provide high quality creative materials, which engage learners and promote motivation and concentration and to provide an environment that facilitates learning. This however, is limited by the resources that are available in the classroom e.g. there may be no equipment available for using power point presentations.
During the delivery stage, my role is to provide clear up to date knowledge and information, using a variety of learning activities to ensure all learners are actively involved and engaged. I also need to ensure lessons run to time, take the register and make sure all learners are clear about the lessons’ aims and objectives. It is my responsibility to establish a good working relationship with my learners so that they feel comfortable asking for additional help and confidence with what they are learning. The boundaries here are not being over friendly, it is not my role to be their best friend or counsellor.
