Unit 301 Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training.
2.2 explain why it is important to promote appropriate behaviour and respect for others. Appropriate behaviour needs to be controlled initially by the setting of boundaries, although not all boundaries will cater for behaviour. This is important to help ensure rules are understood and followed, and that will then help prevent either party taking advantage of the other. Adhering to rules gains respect, and consequently usually transpires into trust and learner progress. Examples of how to promote this can include: being consistent, honour your commitments, build rapport and lead by example. In addition, being honest, providing constructive feedback, and being on time always helps. Some examples of inappropriate behaviour I have witnessed include; someone bringing their breakfast role to the review meeting. I got up and explained I did not want to interrupt breakfast, and that I would be back in 10 minutes. It never happened again. There has been a “supposed” personality clash, and here the trainer was changed. A candidate asked me if I would conduct a meeting, “over a drink”, in a pub. I politely declined explaining this could be seen as inappropriate. If the partnership or the rules break down, ultimately both parties may become disillusioned. We need to remember the objective is to help learning and progression to completion, hopefully in a manner that would encourage the learner to recommend our services to others - this would show learner satisfaction. 1.3 explain ways to promote equality and value diversity There are a number of ways to promote equality and diversity. When taking on learners, then from conception all must be able to enter a room, and we would encourage participation from the learner. Specialist equipment can be used e.g. ipads connected to white boards to help disabled learners, and possible cards to be used for non-verbal learners. All learners should...
