Adoption Caseworker: Mrs. Lori Charles
-------------------------------------------------
Pregnant teen: Jennifer Kent
Mrs. Charles: Hi Jennifer. My name is Mrs. Lori Charles and I am an adoption caseworker... (Extending her hand)…It is very nice to meet you.
Jennifer: (extending her hand)… Hi Mrs. Charles.
Mrs. Charles: Jennifer, can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
Jennifer: Umm… I am 16 years old. I am a sophomore at Westlake Lake High. I live at home with my mom and my nine year old sister and I just found out that I am 5 ½ months pregnant. I am going to have a baby.
Mrs. Charles: You are a 16 year old high school student, living with your mom and sister and you are 5 ½ months pregnant?
Jennifer: Yes ma’am. I…I went to a party out of town with some of my friends a few months ago and I met a boy while I was there and one thing lead to another. I only know that his nickname is Junior. I don’t know his last name or his phone number. I just can’t keep this baby. I knew that abortion was not an option for me, but I would like to find a good home for my baby girl. I would like to put her up for adoption.
Mrs. Charles: You are having a girl?
Jennifer: Yes, it’s a girl. I grew up without a father and I don’t want the same thing for my daughter. My mom has worked really hard to take care of my sister and me. (Sigh) It’s not easy. She has always encouraged me to get an education and then start a family, but I messed up big time… (begins to cry)...It is very important that I find a good family, with both a mother and a father, for my daughter. I know how it is to grow up without a father. It hurts. I always wondered why I wasn’t good enough. Why didn’t he stick around? I don’t want that for
