The radio, which by the 1920s had become widely available, allowing people to listen to the same event at the same time, caused the sales of many, many various products to skyrocket as people could then advertise various products to countless numbers of Americans listening to the radio. The radio also allowed people to listen to events and news minutes after they had happened, making them aware of their surroundings. The television, which was introduced to Americans during the post-world war two era as they were marked by prosperity, was another form of mass media. Beginning with only black and white TV’s, programing was only available from three major broadcasting networks, NBC, CBS, and ABC. By the year nineteen forty six nearly seventeen thousand TVs were said to exist within the United States, growing within the next 7 years, as then nearly two thirds of Americans had at least one television set within their household. This contributed to a thriving consumer based economy for our nation as three major networks controlled around ninety percent of the broadcasting that was viewed by the American people. The TV allowed the broadcasting of many various forms of products, entertainment, and news, influencing the American citizen’s taste, styles, and opinions by exposing them to various products, entertainment, and news.
