Explain how you would promote equality and value diversity within the classroom environment
1.2 M/503/1229- Explain own responsibilities for promoting equality and valuing diversity.

Equality and diversity are promoted and maintained in a classroom environment by providing a safe and comfortable environment for all learners and to ensure that they are treated on their own abilities and merits regardless of their race, gender, religion/belief, disability, political views, economic disadvantage, nationality or marital status.
It is also irrelevant if a learner has a medical condition or criminal background, as all learners should be made to feel at ease with their surroundings and encouraged to participate in class discussions and activities.
Diversity can be maintained by the tutor in the classroom environment by meeting the educational needs of all learners regardless of their background. If this is not done professionally and correctly it can leave individual learners feeling excluded and neglected which in turn could lead to them missing lessons or pulling out of the class altogether. It is therefore essential that all tutors are committed to providing and promoting equal opportunities for all learners under their supervision.
Promotion of equality within a classroom environment is an essential requirement so that all learners feel that they are valued and accepted equally and that any effort to learn is recognised without prejudice or bias.
To promote inclusion within the classroom environment the tutor will need to respond positively to the needs of their learners and aim to make them feel as though they are a part of the learning process.
This is then maintained through a number of different methods, forming work groups is just one of them.
Forming groups of learners of different abilities so they can learn from each other’s strengths and naturally assist each other with weaknesses is an effective way of establishing and maintaining inclusion.
