Explain the potential effects of the different life factors on the development of an individual.
Sickle cell
Sickle cell anemia is an inherited blood disorder that mostly affects people of African ancestry. Sickle cell is a serious disorder in which the body makes sickle-shaped red blood cells. “Sickle-shaped” means that the red blood cells are shaped like a crescent. As the blood cells are the wrong shape, they can block the blood capillaries so that the tissue in the body becomes starved of oxygen. This can end up causing a stroke or a heart attack if blocking a blood vessel to the brain and heart.
By having sickle cell it can impact on your life in a number of ways. Firstly maintaining a healthy diet is required, a healthy diet includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. For example, children with Sickle cell have to attend the hospital/doctors for regular check- ups and other reasons; this may make a child miss a lot of time of school and make it harder for the student to catch up.
Growing up with sickle cell can affect your lifestyle as you may not be able to do a lot of things people your age do. For instance, many teenagers enjoy having freedom staying round a friend’s house. However if you have sickle cell you may have less independence as you have to be more dependent on your parents/ career. This can build up frustration and annoyance as you cannot do the same amount of things as teenagers more fortunate can do. They are also more likely to catch viruses, such as the flu, these symptoms can be a lot worse than a regular person with the flu. http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sickle-cell_disease
