Physical development starts from birth and within three weeks a baby will be able to use a grasp reflex, usually is able to hold hands tightly closed, in supine and prone position, will lie with head to one side. Once a baby reaches 1 month old they will start to gaze attentively at faces, particularly when fed and talked to, Reflexes persist, startle reflex is seen less frequently when sitting at this early age the head will fall forwards (also known as head lag), and the back will be curved. At 3 months when sitting little head lag remains and the back is straighter. It is now that arms can be waved and bought together, legs can be kicked, and they will be able to turn from side to side.
