Proctor Hospital has many locations; however, the one this paper regards in the one in Peoria, IL. Peoria’s Proctor Hospital is focusing resources relating to the senior community at the moment. For instance, Proctor Hospital is aware that seniors have health issue that often times require more and different health care services. This includes seniors with mental health issues, and why Proctor is opening a newly renovated psych unit specifically for the elderly. The unit is known as the Center for Senior Behavioral Health, which includes 18 beds. Proctor will open this unit as of Tuesday, October 30, 2012, but the open house was Monday, October 29, 2012. The open house was invitation only to attract the mental health professionals that would provide referral to Proctor’s new psych unit. The subjects to discuss within this paper include the community need for renovation, type of population renovation is for, and to give a description of the new hospital unit. Peoria Hospitals previous to this, lost a few psych units because they are navigating away from mental health.
Proctors new Center for Senior Behavioral Health unit is for the elderly ages 65 or older who endure from change in mood and behavior. According to “Proctor Hospital” (2012) “these changes can be related to adjustment to lifestyle, isolation, loss of independence and then complicated by medical conditions” (Center for Senior Behavioral Health ). Every individual experiences some of these feelings throughout his or her lifetime; however, it is harder to adapt the older one gets. Therefore, the Center for Senior Behavioral Health at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Illinois has the dedication is takes to meet the needs of elderly physically, and emotionally. Not to mention, the need of the families with involvement of these elderly individuals’ lives.
