The Central Politburo of China is a group of 25 people who oversee the Communist Party of China. Unlike other politburos of Communist parties, power within the politburo is centralized in the Politburo Standing Committee (PSC). The Politburo is nominally appointed by the Central Committee.
The power of the Politburo resides largely in the fact that its members generally hold positions within the People's Republic of China. In addition, some Politburo members hold powerful regional positions. How the Politburo works is unclear, but it seems that the full Politburo meets once a month and the Standing Committee meets weekly but it appears that these meeting are less frequent than the former Soviet Union. The topic of discussion for the meetings are controlled by the General Secretary and decisions are made by consensus instead than by majority vote.
The Central Politburo Standing Committee consists of the top leadership of China. Each member has a portfolio covering an area of national concern like the economy, legislation, corruption, internal security, or propaganda. Currently the PSC acts as the highest and most powerful decision-making body in China. Its members are closely watched by the national media and political watchers abroad
