Over the course of time, we have experienced many technological advancements that, to many people meant losing basic human functions, which is what Turkle discusses in her article “Flight from Conversation”. Although, for the most part I agree with some of her ideas explaining the effect of technology on our lives, I too disagree with several points she attempts to make and the fact that she tries to generalize technology as a whole. I think that the current advancements in cell phones and such has been both good and bad for our us in the long run, pertaining to the different uses that it acquires. This is due to several different factors, as I read through her article she is pretty consistent with the amount of clear evidence she provides. The amount of experience she obtained within the subject definitely does its part in convincing the audience that somehow technology is changing us for the worse. Even though she does tend to make clear and logical points that most of the audience would agree on, she has a tendency to to exaggerate point after point she makes about how technology is the cause for the decrease in social communication and such.
One of the first statements that she makes involves her saying how wherever you go now a days there is always people just glued to their cellphones. She mentions multiple scenarios where social conversation has been lost among friends and families. Everywhere we go, we incline to feel the need to use many sorts of technology gadgets even when we don’t need to use them at the time. It’s more like an urge that people feel, like an addiction. Many, including me, suddenly feel the need to grab my phone or whatever technology gadget that is right next to me at random times, and attempt to simultaneously check all my forms of social media for the sake of it.
