“Fluoride, A healthy or unhealthy choice?”
It has been said that fluoride was good for you, especially for the teeth. But during the last couple of years it has been said that it is not so good for you. So what is it? Is it good for you or is it not? You can ask anyone and they will share their opinion. But what about the facts, what do the facts say?
According to fluoride action network, ingestion of fluoride has little benefit and a lot of risk. They list five risk that fluoride can cause including risk to the brain, to the thyroid gland, to the bones, for bone cancer and it is a big risk to kidney patients. Even though all of these risks are very important today we are interested in fluoride being a risk to the brain. According to the National Research Council fluoride can damage the brain, how you may ask? In the 1990’s an animal study was conducted by scientist in the EPA, and they found dementia-like effects at the same concentration which was 1ppm used to fluoridate water. “While human studies have found adverse effects on IQ at levels as low was 0.9 ppm among children with nutrient deficiencies, and 1.8 ppm among children with adequate nutrient intake” (FCN, 2000); The age of these children where seven thru ten years old. There was another study saying that excess intake of fluoride can have a slow but yet effect our teeth, spinal cord, skeletal system, our brain and our muscles. The study suggested that fluoride intake over a long period of time effects some enzymes releasing free-radicals (which can lead to cancer). There was another article that I found posted by Dr. Mercola, talking about how there are a lot of recent human studies from China that have confirmed that Fluoride damages your brain. Dr. Mercola said that prior to the China studies in 1992 there had been about 30 animals’ studies that reported impairment in learning and memory processes with animals that used fluoride. According to Dr. Mercola studies have demonstrated that levels as low...
