Wash hands after gardening activities, before food based activities/meal times, after the toilet. Why is it important to do this? Tell the story about ‘Oliver’s Fruit Salad’. Make a summer fruit salad/fruity faces, reinforce good hygiene practices, and discuss fruits/tastes/smells/textures. Visit an allotment. Grow fruits at the setting and promote ownership of this project.Begin to make decisions during role play activities/share toys, resources and materials and take turns. Change the role play area into a garden centre. Demonstrate these skills during role play.Concentrate for limited periods when involved in appropriate tasks/concentrate and persevere for lengthening periods/concentrate for lengthening periods when involved in appropriate tasks. Demonstrate an increasing ability to remain on focus tasks for given periods. Engage and be an active participant in planting activities and maintenance of the plants.Begin to explore new learning opportunities/recognise their achievements and those of others/explore and use new i.c.t opportunities. Become familiar with the gardening programmes of the ‘cbeebies’ webpage (Big and Small).Develop an awareness of boundaries in the environment and boundaries of behaviour/become more aware of safety hazards in the environment when playing and how their actions affect others.. Understand the potential hazards in the outdoor areas, play safely on the wooden play structure and balancing/seating logs.
