Great Job
Bateman & Snell (2011) state “Management and leadership are both vitally important,” (Chapter 12, p. 421). I believe that any individual can exemplify both or neither of the skills needed to be effectual as a manager or a leader.   However, an individual that makes a good leader may not always possess the qualities required to manage others. “Leaders provide the guidance and support that is necessary to the backbone of the day-to-day activities within the company. But managers have a vision that goes beyond the everyday operations as they clearly see the bigger picture and can positively motivate others to join actively in their visualization of the future. A few individuals may be fortunate enough to possess the ability to both lead and manage, and leadership skills can be acquired, but it is the manager who stands above. It is a manager’s ability to combine and implement suitable strategic substance as well as the incorporation of effective interpersonal skills that will produce results and sustain a competitive advantage needed for a company to flourish.   These strategic managers influence others and never forgo the slightest opportunities, from the mundane details to the fundamental realties of the grand plan. Not every leader is capable of such vision and passion but most managers are because they have mastered the basics of leadership and incorporated the finesse needed to motivate others,” (Bateman, & Snell, 2011, Chapter 12).
