Health Care Communication Methods
Boone Health Care is a local nursing home facility and rehabilitation center, I hold the position of nursing home administrator. I recently received notification from our corporate office that our company is being bought by a national group and the CEO of this new group is wanting to schedule a conference call with me this week to talk about the new changes that will be taking place. The email I received also talked about new policies and procedures that will be implemented, and due to these new policies and procedures some of our residents will be displaced. As the administrator of this facility it is my responsibility to make sure that my staff is aware of any and all new policies and procedures that are being implemented. By keeping the lines of communication open it ensures the health and safety of our residents. It is also my responsibility to communicate these changes to the residents, and the resident’s families. Since there are residents that are not able to communicate very well because of language barriers or illnesses, and some residents don’t have family members who live locally, these residents are not capable of approving the release of their personal medical information. These issues must be resolved and handled in a timely matter.
My first task is to put a plan in action that will help me implement ways to communicate the changes that are coming to my staff members and to families of our residents. This will not be an easy task, but it is my job to make sure that the residents and their families are aware of the changes that will be taking place. Before I speak to anyone regarding the new policies and procedures I need to make sure that I have a good understanding of these changes myself.
