Abstract
As a US Navy Iraq War veteran, I have to admit that I didn’t know much about the country before being deployed there. While there I wondered what would happen to this country post war and if our invasion of this war torn area made any difference at all. So I chose this country to educate myself further on what the country was like before the war and to find out what impact we made if any to assist this countries progress.

Iraq – Before the War
Iraq was an advanced civilization that existed during 4000 B.C. The land became the center of the ancient Babylonian and Assyrian empires sometime after 2000 B.C.
According to the Britannica, In ancient times Iraq was called Mesopotamia, a Greek word meaning “land between the rivers.” This Middle Eastern country, located at the headwaters of the Persian Gulf, lies partly between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, a fertile area often regarded as the cradle of civilization. Its history dates back some 5,000 years. In the second half of the 20th century, the Republic of Iraq became a leading producer of petroleum. The capital of Iraq is Baghdad. (Compton's by Britannica, 2009).
Iraq’s climate Iraq varies from hot and dry valley such as the deserts which stretch across most of Iraq. There are only two seasons in this country, summer and winter.
