Hardware Replacement Project
In this scenario there are two projects, one being the IT Departments implementation of a new CRM solution and the other being the replacing the out-of-date hardware that will not support the new CRM application. The project of replacing the hardware will need to be completed before implementation of the CRM solution can take place.
The scope of this project will entail the purchase of new hardware. The hardware will need to be up-to-date and compatible with the new CRM application. The scope of this project will also include the installation of the new hardware. Project management will define what work is included and excluded from the project to ensure that the work does not go beyond what was originally planned.
Project Management will look at the scope of the project along with the individual components of the project. Then project management will break down each major component into smaller tasks and duties. Project management will then determine the amount of time it will take to complete each task and duty and calculate together the amount of time that is needed to complete the project from start to finish.
Project management has a duty to monitor the cost of the project and maintain that the cost remain with in the allotted budget. To do this they must succeed in keeping to the scope of the project. The project management can achieve this by setting a budget and monitoring the ongoing expenses often throughout the time of the project. The cost of the project is determined by figuring in the cost of all the hardware, software, workspace and human resources needed for the project. The staff is an additional factor in the cost of the project. The staffing cost is figured by knowing how much staff is needed and for how long they are needed. To do this project management must have a good grasp on the scope and time of the project.
