Leadership Approach
Leadership is one most important concept in the organizational management. Although leadership has many ways of defining, its effectiveness is vital to any organizational environment for the attainment of goals and objectives. Different definitions whether leadership is a process in which, it involves intentional influence over other people, or specialized role, or shared influence, its effectiveness to the organizational environmental success is critical. Characteristics of leaders, followers, and situation are the three types of variables to understand leadership effectiveness (Yukl, 2010).
Leadership effectiveness in influencing people for the intended purpose to facilitate activities in the organizational success is by useful ways of approaches (Yukl, 2010). The means of attraction to influence subordinates, peers, and outsiders in understanding and agreeing in the ways the objectives can be accomplish is determined by the leadership approach. With the proper leadership approach, leaders will influence, facilitate, and prepare his or her subordinate, and peers to meet current work and future challenges ahead (Yukl, 2010).
Overview of Behavioral Approach
Effectiveness of leadership has been the emphasis of the researchers. To understand the effectiveness of leadership, types of variables, such as characteristic of leaders, followers, and situations are research within each category. However, characteristics of leaders, such as traits, behavior, or power are consistent in classifying the leadership approaches. According to Yukl, different approaches in leadership have been research to determine the effectiveness of leadership in the organization.
