Public leadership is defined in many different terms as having the influence and ability to lead groups of individuals that have a common interest and or goal that will benefit the public.   Economic values are not supposed nor should they influence the behavior and conduct of a public leader because it is the public taxpayer’s funds that oversee those services.   It is the responsibility of Public leaders to maintain what is in the best interest of the public without prejudice. Leaders in the public sector seem to protect greater and more advanced positions of responsibility with limited accountability.   Ideal leadership styles, leadership methods, and theories will result in effective leadership, satisfied consumers, and well accomplished tasks (Lewis, 2013). Leadership styles and theories can be used in practically any leadership role. It is all dependent on whether one has chosen the “right” method and theory of leadership within the culture of the organization.
There are many theories that are deemed appropriate to the roles of leaders. Supportive leader behavior is conduct that is tailored with respect to the satisfaction of a subordinate’s choice.   Organizations within the Public sector that contain powerful leadership capacity demonstrate increased versatility, innovation, efficiency, and effectiveness.   With increased multiplicity and the lack of trust for the government, adequate and sufficient leadership can create a fundamental difference in an organization’s substantial performance and public perception of operations as well as external support.   It is a fact that effective leadership provides better quality and adequate products and services. Effective leadership provides an understanding of unity, greater levels of satisfaction from employees, and personal development.
