Leadership Style
Individuals have many different leadership styles and characteristics. Most people can identify with one or more leaders from history or in their own life. Since my favorite sport is football, one leader that I admire is Tim Tebow. Tim Tebow has a leadership style that is excellent for not only the game of football, but for handling difficult situations in everyday life. My personal leadership style and characteristics differ from Tim, but after discussing various topics with my mentor we have determined how to mirror some of the positive qualities he exhibits.
Tim Tebow is a quarterback in the National Football League. He started his career playing with the Denver Broncos, but has since played for the Jets and most recently the New England Patriots. He is a polarizing figure and attracts a lot of media attention based on his leadership style and characteristics that are displayed on and off the field. Tim’s leadership style is that of a transformational leader. He has the ability to motivate and inspire his teammates by showing them the higher good of the task, which is winning football games. He has a focus to win games, but is equally concerned with the performance of the members of his team. He motivates his team to compete at their highest potential to score more points than the opponent. Transformational leaders also tend to have a high moral and ethical standard which is seen in Tim’s personality. Tim always talks about his faith in Jesus and lives his life the exact way that he portrays to the media during his press conferences. Tim also leads by example. He is always the first one at the stadium to work out and practice and is the last one to leave. He works hard and encourages others to do the same. The leadership qualities he exhibits are definitely one to be admired as well as imitated.
