The first stage of memory is sensory memory. Sensory memory is responsible for handling any information that is sensed in the past it. It records all five of your senses for a short period of time then new information is stored and or converted to short term memory . This memory is based on short memory storage   as for example trying to recall something that happened years ago only remembering a portion of the events that has occurred. In between sensory and memory and long term there is the stage called short term memory it can also be known as the working memory. This memory is known to hold at least 7 items at one time information retained for at least 20 to 30 seconds. Your awareness of how you are feeling or the things you think about also sense. The third stage of memory is called long term memory. This stage of memory is known as the unlimited stage of memory any information retained through out the long term memory is known to last a very long time sometimes even can last a lifetime. With this stage of memory memories can barely be forgotten about. I have memories that I remember from a very long time ago some even from a very young age that I know will live with me forever. Even if I try to gain new memories in my life they can never push out the old memories that I have in fact most new memories I have already gained are some what forgotten while I still remember old memories as if it was just yesterday.
