Assignment 1
Introduction to Management and Leadership
Lecturer Gary Fox
ABSTRACT
• Assignment one;
Introduction to Management and Leadership, details my interpretation and understanding of tasks one to six.
Prior to the following assignment, I feel it useful to explain a little about my current role within PD ports.
I am based at the Teesport site in Middlesbrough and currently employed as an engineering support team supervisor; having served an apprenticeship as a mechanical fitter/machinist.
Teesport operates a large fleet of trucks and cranes to carry out import export operations; all of which require regular servicing or repair, a task which is undertaken by the engineering department.
I am currently charged with the supervision of a small team of engineers, both electrical and mechanical disciplines, and as a team we respond to breakdowns which occur during day to day operations.

• A.C. 1.1 – Explain the purpose of a personal development plan (PDP) for both the middle manager and the organisation
Whilst researching the subject, I stumbled on a quote I believe sums up PDP and encapsulates my own beliefs.
"PDP supports the idea that learning is a...
