There are many different conditions which are classified as mental illnesses, some of the more common ones are:
• Anxiety disorder- Many whom suffer with anxiety disorders will respond to certain objects or situations with fear and dread, this anxiety will be shown with physical signs of anxiety or nervousness- these usually include, but are not limited to a rapid heartbeat, sweating etc... Anxiety disorders are diagnosed by finding out if the person's response is not appropriate for the situation, if the person cannot control their own response, or if their anxiety interferes with normal functioning. Anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobias.
• Mood disorder- These disorders are also called affective disorder – they usually involve fluctuating emotions where you may go from a period of happiness to a extreme state of depression- Mood disorders are more of the dangerous disorders as you must find help before suicidal thoughts start to come in. The most common mood disorders are depression, mania and bipolar.
• Psychotic disorders: Psychotic disorders involve distorted awareness and thinking. Two of the most common symptoms of psychotic disorders are hallucinations- where the person suffering from the disorder may experience images or sounds that are not real, or start to hearing voices that are not there, another symptom is delusions which is false beliefs that the ill person accepts as true, Schizophrenia is an example of a psychotic disorder.
