Karl Freidrich Benz was a German engine designer and automobile engineer, best known as the inventor of the gasoline-powered cars and the founder of Mercedes Benz. Although he is well-known for his contributions towards the automobile industry, his original studies focused on blacksmithing, but he eventually traced his step-father’s steps towards engineering. He rose from the post of a draftsman in a construction company to the post of managing director of the world’s number two ranked car three times in arrow when it comes to all-round safety (pedestrian, passengers, surrounding cars, etc). You may be surprised to know that he had created many automobile companies (named Benz) in various countries. One of them was “Benz & Cie” which was originally created in Germany, and then another one was Benz Söhne which he had founded with his sons. It is these that merged together; along with another one of his created businesses, Daimler-Benz, and created the well know Mercedes-Benz.
As a child, I have been growing up in an environment in which I had always seen Mercedes Benz cars all around me, and also have been constantly hearing praises about his marvelous creations. What I really appreciate is that he came up with the idea of creating such cars all by himself and he stuck to that plan until he finally achieved it.
After doing all this research, if I ever have the honour of meeting him, my main aim would be to ask him if he had ever predicted that his own company would, around let’s say 50 years from now, to be one of the top most ranked cars in the world and competing with especially many other German makes, and not other ones.
