The purpose of this essay is to give a clear understanding of the developmental needs at each stage of the human life cycle; I will also apply two chosen contrasting psychological theories to evaluate the issues throughout the life cycle of the client in the case study who is Robert. I will also be evaluating on my own understanding of applying these theories into Roberts’s case study.
The term human growth and development is used to explain the changes a person will undertake from birth into old age. These changes include; physical, emotional, social, cultural and cognitive abilities that will grow and develop throughout life to fulfil an individual’s needs. The course of development can be split into five particular stages: Bingham (2009)
These stages would start from birth infancy ( 0-2 years) the child’s physical development will be getting stronger, sitting up, crawling and walking independently, emotional development will also be forming the child will start to interact and respond to attention, the child will be developing a sense of one’s self and become more self sufficient through care and love which will in return will influence a bonding trust with their carer and others in their environmental surroundings.
Second stage childhood (2-12 years) upon physical changes the body will become stronger with growth, co-ordination and motor skills will also be improving, the child will also start to recognise a sense of self awareness and form relationships through interaction and play, their language will become more clear and understanding, they will have the cognitive ability to learn new skills and also adapt a Sense of cultural belongingness through media and education.
Third stage adolescence (12-21 years) the body will be changing in preparation for puberty, will have formed a greater sense of awareness and formed relationships, their peer groups will have a significant importance and will also be taking on new roles, will also become more capable...
