UMKC Trustees Scholars Program Application Essay
For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to make a living for myself. I'm interested in “flipping” homes – purchasing properties in need of care and renovating them for a profit after reselling them. If I do pursue this career, the idea that I would be responsible for my own success or failure both challenges and excites me. My goal is to seek out withering estates that have been damaged, neglected, or simply worn down and then to renovate the buildings while retaining their individual charm. Through this path I wish to contribute to society by providing the opportunity for loving families to move into a space that is uniquely their own and that they can feel safe in. Furthermore, the destruction of a town’s historical and charming homes simply due to their structural ailments has disappointed me since I was a little girl; every home carries so many memories and unique stories that I believe should be preserved with care and contributed to by each new family that occupies the space. The degree I am seeking from UMKC is a bachelor’s in Business Administration with an Entrepreneurship Emphasis and Real Estate Concentration. Upon completion of this program, I will have beneficial knowledge in many areas of today’s business sphere. A degree in Finance is applicable to almost any field that I could wish to enter when I venture off after college, and my dream career requires a sense of integrity and responsibility characteristic of any successful entrepreneur. With the addition of a concentration in Real Estate, I will have the advantage of becoming well-versed in the diverse field of home buying and construction so that I can leave the University of Missouri Kansas City with the knowledge and confidence that will carry me into my future.
