3 Idiots is an Indian comedy-drama film released in 2009. The film is edited, co-written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani with a screenplay by Abhijat Joshi, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. It is loosely adapted from the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Omi Vaidya, Parikshit Sahni and Boman Irani are the stars of the film.
The film starts some years after Farhan Qureshi (Madhavan),Raju Rastogi (Sharman) and Ranchoddas "Rancho" Shamaldas Chanchad (Amir Khan) have graduated, but Rancho has somehow vanished along the way. The story is about two friends Farhan and Raju who on getting a clue on the whereabouts of their college friend, Rancho and started a journey to find him. The journey began when Farhan received a call aboard on Air India plane from Chatur Ramalingam, the nerd student, who is now a successful businessman. Farhan faked a stroke while Raju excused himself from his wife- trouser less in the sake of wanting to re-unite with his friend, Rancho.
The film then follows the three friends from when they first met at the residences of the Imperial College of Engineering, one of the best colleges in India. The film explains that each of them is studying engineering for different reasons. Farhan wants to become a wildlife photographer, but is pursuing engineering to fulfil his family's wish, whereas Raju needs to improve his family's financial situation as he comes from a poor family and Rancho studies engineering for the pleasure of building machines and his passion about engineering.
